COBWEB recently attended and presented at a two day workshop held by the Joint Research Centre (JRC) of the European Commission on January 27th-27th in Ispra (Italy). The workshop was attended by international experts discussing the uses of data and service infrastructures for Citizen Science.
COBWEB attended the Aberystwyth University BCS (The Chartered Institute for IT) & Arts Tech, Show and Tell on Friday 20th February. This free event provided students, staff, companies and the community with an opportunity to present their work in areas that involve technology in some shape or form. From working with wearable technology to creating mobile apps, attendees were encouraged to ‘show and tell’ about their latest creations, works in progress, prototypes, websites and more.
On 4th December 2014 over 130 delegates from across Europe gathered in Brussels for the Citizens’ Observatories: Empowering European Society, an event organised by the European Commission, and the five Citizens Observatories projects.
Last month (5th-7th February 2014) COBWEB was invited to attend, and present, at the Citizens Science and Smart Cities Summit which was arranged by the European Commissions Joint Research Centre, the Institute for Environment and Sustainability.
Last month (21st February 2014) the COBWEB project was represented by Crona Hodges (Aberystwyth University) at the Chartered Institute of Ecology and Environmental Monitoring Welsh Section Conference 2014 in Aberystwyth.
Crona gave a presentation on opportunities for crowdsourcing in ecology contexts (view below) and had some really useful questions and comments regarding these types of projects and particularly opportunities for data sharing and reuse.
Those interested in the technologies and standards-based approaches used by COBWEB will be interested to hear that last week Bart De Lathouwer, from COBWEB partner OGC, attended the ENVIP-2013 (Environmental Information Systems and Services - Infrastructures and Platforms 2013) workshop, part of ISESS 2013 – the International Symposium on Environmental Software Systems (9th – 11th October 2013) in Neusiedl am See, Austria.
The COBWEB team held a 2 hour Authentication session during the conference which was well attended and by all accounts incredibly useful. COBWEB also had a poster presentation and a conference stand for the duration of the project.
